Solutions for energy policy - a resources document from CEP

All Kansans want a sound, comprehensive energy policy - but the topic is so big, it's hard to know where to start. During the past year, countless people have asked CEP what such a policy might look like.

Now you can download the answer - our new report, "Solutions - Toward a sound, comprehensive energy policy for Kansas" (.pdf).

Solutions provides a menu of possible energy policy options, and gives a general, best practices overview of what other Midwestern states have done with clean energy policy.

Our state deserves a comprehensive energy policy that -

  • Makes the most of Kansas resources - wind, solar, and biomass.
  • Creates jobs and builds our economy.
  • Protects Kansas ratepayers against rising, volatile fossil fuel prices.
  • Gets maximum energy from least cost efficiency.
  • Guards the health of citizens and our environment.
  • Reduces fuel imports and increases the state's energy security and independence.

"Wind, sun, and biomass can fuel the clean energy economy of the 21st century," says CEP Executive Director Nancy Jackson. "Today, smart energy policies can save money, manage risk, and create tens of thousands of new jobs. Kansans can claim our share of the booming renewable energy industry and bring prosperity to the Plains."

Smart energy policies provide regulatory certainty for renewables,
and send the message that Kansas is open for business.

The renewable energy industry grew over 20% for each of the last three years. Resource-rich Kansas deserves energy policies that will help us compete with other states for these profits and jobs - while we secure safe, reliable, and low-cost energy sources for the 21st century.
