Phantom Load

Many appliances and digital devices draw electricity even when they are not turned on or in use. This unseen draw is known as a phantom load, and it can go as high as 1-15 watts per item. Many DVD players, AC unites, televisions, etc. draw power all day without you even knowing it. Phantom loads can cost homeowners and business owners hundreds of dollars per year, and it consumes 5% of all energy in the U.S.
