Glossary of Terms

Someone on the news or radio is talking about climate change, and you think you’ve about got it… and then they drop in a term like “anthropogenically forced climate change” or “decoupling.” After that, they’ve lost you.

We hated that feeling. Thus, we came up with the Glossary. The goal is simply to give everyday citizens the basic vocabulary necessary to understand discussions of climate and energy.

For far more detailed online glossaries, see the EPA’s Climate Change Glossary, the Pew Center’s glossary, DSIRE’s Glossary (state policy initiatives), and the CIPCO Energy Library (especially the Fundamentals of Electricity section).
