Greenhouse Effect

Energy travels from the sun to the earth, passing through the atmosphere and warming the earth’s surface. The excess heat is supposed to bounce harmlessly back into space, but greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide
and methane trap the heat in the earth’s atmosphere instead. Among other effects, the trapped radiation increases the amount of water vapor in the atmosphere as well. The ultimate effect is to heat up the earth in the process of global warming, which contributes significantly to climate change.

“Iraq and a lot of the skirmishes we are in are about energy. And I think, to put it in a nutshell, we feel it makes more sense to put wind turbines on our prairie instead of our fine young men and women under the prairie."
