Glossary of Terms
Ecosystem
Ecosystems are units of habitat that encompass all living things – plants, animals, birds, microbes, etc. – coexisting within them. A pond might be an ecosystem; a watershed might be an ecosystem; the Great Plains are yet another example of an ecosystem (a large one that contains many smaller ones within).
Climate
is a major factor shaping ecosystems and the fate of the species within.
Climate change
has a significant impact on ecoystems.
